Rylie is another well known female fighter for cannabis as a medicine. Rylie was also featured in our newest Children’s Issue, and her full story can be read here. For those of you who may have not yet heard of Rylie’s incredible story, she began fighting for her life at the age of seven years old. She successfully survived her condition thanks to cannabis, and has made several accomplishments over these past few years. Her efforts would see Delaware pass Rylie’s Law, which allows children to use cannabis oils for medicinal reasons, and she also pushed legislation forward allowing cannabis medicine in schools, and adding autism as a qualifying condition for medical cannabis treatment in her home state of Delaware. Rylie told us, “I knew what I wanted: A way to help kids as much as possible.”
To learn more about Rylie’s story and the other amazing work she’s accomplishing, read the full article in our newest issue.
Great Research About Medicine at the Cannabis Science Conference
People from around the world attended the Cannabis Science Conference in Portland, OR this past week. Featuring an impressive line up of educators in the fields of cannabis science and research, we understand why it’s known as the world’s largest and most technical science conference in cannabis. The event’s Plenary Speakers were Amazon John Easterling and Olivia Newton John, who shared about their journeys with the healing powers of plant medicines. Olivia credited cannabis as being what allowed her to stop using morphine, and it was ayahuasca, which she took in Peru, that gave her the ability to quit using anti-depressants.
It’s incredible stories like these that inspire us to continue in our mission to deliver Great Research About Medicine, one GRAM at a time. The conference also featured several excellent presentations our team was able to sit it on, including Dr. Bonni Goldstein’s presentation, CBD and CBG: Mechanisms of Action. We are proud to have an interview with Dr. Goldstein featured in our newest issue and you can read her interview here.
Our team met up with the Ryan family, who shared Sophie’s Story with us in our Children’s Issue, where Tracy Ryan shares her daughter Sophie’s miraculous story, and the challenges her family faced as parents treating their child with cannabis. Tracy was an emcee at the conference, spoke on the Pediatric Panel, and presented Medical Miracles or Simply Science – A Cancer Mom’s Road to a Cure.
Another incredibly educational presentation was, The Unified Theory of the Endocannabinoid System, presented by The Knox Docs. The Knox Docs “are a family of physicians with backgrounds in Emergency Medicine, Anesthesia, Family Medicine, Integrative Medicine, and Preventive Medicine. They have expanded their expertise to include Integrative Cannabinology, Functional Endocannabinology™ and Cannabinoid Medicine, and are internationally recognized as thought leaders in the care of the endocannabinoid system and cannabis therapeutics.”
Dr. Justin Sulak, of Healer, presented, Cannabis for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. We’ve seen Dr. Sulak present before and we’re always impressed. We previously published notes from Dr. Sulak’s presentation at the Cannabis Science Conference East in Baltimore, MD earlier this year.
GRAM Sponsors Two Runners Who Consume Cannabis
Grass Roots America Magazine is excited to announce our sponsorship of the Green House Healthy 2019 Trail Marathon Challenge! The challenge follows the Founders of Green House Healthy, Heather and Antonio DeRose, as they complete their very first half and full trail marathons while educating about the benefits of cannabis for a healthy and active lifestyle.
In addition to being NASM Certified Personal Trainers and endurance athletes, the DeRose’s are both contributing writers for our magazine! Antonio produces a Cannabis and Fitness column in every issue, focused on the science behind cannabis and fitness, and how they can play a role in each issue’s theme. Heather writes several research based articles and recently wrote the exclusive interview with Alexis Bortell, who is on the cover of our Children’s Issue.
Heather and Antonio just completed the half trail marathon portion of the challenge on August 10th. They ran their first 13.1 miles at the Run the Rockies Half Trail Marathon in Frisco, Colorado. Heather came in 26th and Antonio finished 21st in their age groups. With it being their first half trail marathon, they both consider their finishes personal wins, and they attribute their ability to push themselves mentally and physically to the health and wellness benefits of cannabis.
When we asked Heather about how cannabis works for her as an athlete, she said, “I consumed cannabis all throughout my training, before the race, and after. I use it to get motivated to run, stay focused while training or competing, and to recover after. Cannabis flower is my go to supplement, but I also use several topical products and tinctures.” Both of them told us they are looking forward to their full trail marathon in December, and are already looking at adding more races to their challenge.
On top of their athletic challenges, the married couple also travel, presenting research-based education about cannabis, fitness, nutrition, and epilepsy. They will be with us at the Cannabis Science Conference West in Portland, OR, where they will be presenting Cannabinoids for Fitness. Then, later in September, they will be speaking about cannabis and sports at CanEx Jamaica where they will also be representing our magazine as press. We’re very proud of the educational work they do and all of their efforts to raise awareness for the health and wellness benefits of cannabis.
